Who is Athletes HoneyMilk?
Basketball was my first love in high school. Now I cycle, lift weights, wake board, and water ski. I’ve also completed three half Ironmans. As a cyclist, I’ve had a few podium finishes at the Cat 1, 2 level. I'm a two time state football champion and won the Idaho Cat 3 cycling championship. But my real workouts? Keeping up with my 3-year-old and 8-year-old. They're what really keep me moving.
In high school I multitasked, playing varsity tennis while maintaining a sufficient level of geekiness. Recently I completed the Austin Half Marathon and am planning on running the Chicago Marathon in October. As much as I run, I also think about running and choose not to run. I also apparently like to wash boats.
In high school and college I played cricket and hockey. Since then I have taken up running. I completed half marathons in both 2003 and 2009. Currently I’m running three to seven miles, five to six times a week.
In high school I competed in swimming and track. I ran the 100-yard hurdles for which I still hold the school record, if you can believe that! Currently I run, bike, swim and do strength conditioning several times a week.
I played college football at the University of Houston and the University of Texas-Arlington, while also competing in track. I ran 9.7 seconds for the 100-yd-dash in 1959. Since then I’ve completed 44 marathons and 326 triathlons, including seven Ironmans. In 2009 I won the 70-74 age group of the Southwest Triathlon Challenge series.
As a teenager, I quit basketball and baseball for running. I went on to receive seven All-State honors in track in cross country in high school and competed at the varsity level in three sports at Tufts University. Since college I have run the Chicago marathon, several half marathons and have competed in dozens of other road races. I love to cross-train on the bike, in the pool and in the weight room. I’m still hoping to run a sub 15 minute 5k before flipping the switch to marathon training.
For my entire life, it seems, I have played football and baseball. I played quarterback and corner on the gridiron, and almost everywhere on the diamond for Monterey High School in Lubbock, TX. I have tasted the Kool-Aid, and I'm slowly becoming hooked on endurance sports. I will very soon be one of the many fighting for that finish line as I compete in my first endurance races this year!
I walk everyday at least 5 miles, I am slowing working my way to run again. I also go to the gym and use the weights to tone up and to use the Tread Mill. I very much believe in eating healthy. Along with regular exercise, that's the key to keeping your weight in check.
